Waterproof Chains for Men, Built to Live In

The waterproof chain is the chain you forget you are wearing. No daily ritual of taking it off before the shower, no panic when it gets caught in a gym towel, no slow tarnish over six months until the colour drifts grey. Monrich builds the full chain catalogue to waterproof standard — every cut, every width, every length, all in 18K gold PVD plated over solid stainless steel. The PVD process bonds real 18K gold to the steel core at a molecular level in a vacuum chamber. The result is a finish rated for shower, pool, sea, gym and sleep, with a durability five to ten times higher than standard gold plating.

Cuban, Curb, Rope, Figaro, Tennis — All Cuts Waterproof

Every cut in the Monrich chain range carries the same waterproof PVD finish. Cuban links — the flat, interlocked, statement chain — in 6mm to 12mm widths. Curb chains in twisted-oval pattern, the classic everyday cut. Rope chains in woven spiral, softer drape, layers well. Figaro in alternating long-short pattern. Tennis chains with cubic zirconia stones prong-set across the full length. Wheat chains in six-strand woven. The clasp on every chain is the same PVD-plated stainless steel as the chain itself — there is no exposed base metal anywhere on the piece for water to attack.

Why Most Waterproof Chains Are Not

The men's chain market is full of waterproof claims that do not survive a week of real testing. Cheap chains use sprayed gold-tone paint over zinc — fades in days when wet. Mid-market chains use thin electroplating over stainless — lasts a few months in dry wear, lifts at the clasp inside a year of shower use. The clue is to ask what the clasp is made of. If the chain is plated but the clasp is plated separately or made of a different metal, water gets in at the seam and pulls the plating off. Monrich plates the clasp as part of the same PVD run, on the same metal. There is no seam, no separate plating job, no weak point.

Pair With a Pendant or Stack Two Chains

The waterproof chain wears alone or stacks easily. Hang a cross pendant or dog tag on a Cuban or curb chain — both pendants are PVD-plated to match. For a layered look, run a thicker Cuban under a thinner rope or curb, offsetting lengths by at least 5cm so the chains do not tangle. Pair the chain with a matching waterproof bracelet or waterproof ring for a full waterproof stack.

FAQ

Questions Fréquentes

Are these chains really waterproof?
Yes. Every chain uses 18K gold PVD plating bonded to surgical-grade stainless steel at a molecular level. The gold layer does not lift, the steel does not rust, the clasp does not corrode. Rated for shower, pool, sea, gym and sleep.
What is the difference between PVD and standard gold plating?
Standard electroplating dips the chain in a gold solution — thin layer, easy to lift at the clasp first. PVD vaporises 18K gold in a vacuum chamber and bonds it to the steel at a molecular level. Five to ten times more durable, and rated waterproof from day one.
What chain cuts are available?
All the daily-wear cuts: Cuban (the flat interlocked link, widest range), curb (twisted oval links, classic), rope (woven spiral, soft drape), figaro (alternating long-short pattern), tennis (cubic zirconia row), wheat (six-strand woven). Widths from 4mm fine to 12mm statement.
Will the clasp fail in water?
No. The clasp is the same material as the chain — PVD-plated stainless steel — and tested to 5kg. No exposed base metal, no rusting hinge. We replace any clasp failure within 24 months.
Will chlorine or salt water damage it?
Neither will damage the plating itself. Rinse with fresh water after a swim to keep the surface bright — salt and chlorine can build a film over time that dulls the finish, but they do not eat through PVD.
What length should I order?
45–50cm sits at the base of the neck (close-fit). 50–55cm sits at the collarbone (most common). 60–65cm drops mid-chest (statement length). Full sizing on the size guide — measure with a string and a ruler.
